This tomato comes from Breckenridge County, Kentucky from the Casey family whose ancestors acquired it in the late 1800s from the Gypsies as they were passing through! The same family has been raising it ever since and keeping the seeds from year to year.
Odie Dickerson is a potato-leafed variety which means that the foliage will look remarkably similar to potato foliage. It is an indeterminate variety with very unique fruits that though red by first glance, as you study it further you see a bit of purplish undertones in it that start to stand out the more you look at it. It is not the most prolific producer in the tomato world, but what you get with this one is a flavor very unlike any other, a very curious tomato in my opinion with an appeal all its own.
